I am addicted to sugar.
No, I don’t indulge in doughnuts or oreos or soda or other highly processed foods like that, but I’ve gotten in the habit of adding “healthier” sugars (oh hey, honey, coconut sugar and pure maple syrup!) to SO many things.
every. single. day.
I deceived myself into thinking that eating sugar in those forms is OK! But the reality is that SUGAR is SUGAR! It all does the same thing once it’s inside my body! And there is so much research out there that points to sugar as a MAJOR culprit of a crazy number of health issues.
After watching some TED talks and documentaries recently about the perils of sugar, I decided to put a circle around the next day in my calendar and I wrote in bold letters “THE DAY I QUIT SUGAR.” It was time for a major break-up. And I knew it might not be a pretty one!
I’m currently on day 5, and let me tell you – it hasn’t been easy! BUT it’s so very empowering to be in control of what I put in my body, and to feel my cravings for sugar start to decrease!!
Does this mean I’ll never enjoy a cookie from Whole Foods (oh my goodness, their vegan chocolate chip ones are seriously the BEST cookie on the planet…and I’m not even vegan!) or other sweetened treats? NO! But I am committed to cutting off my habit of adding sweetener to everything and always having sweet treats in the house. Because what I do every day matters more than what I do once in a while!
Anyone want to take on this challenge with me??! Anyone?! 😉
